The Victoria Inn and Holkham Estate
OK Google, find me a small intimate hotel in North Norfolk on the edge of a privately owned estate that boasts its own deer park.
Result: The Victoria Inn, Holkham Village, North Norfolk.
Holkham Hall is a privately owned, lived in home. The Viscount Coke and his family live there throughout the year. Although the house is closed to the public in the winter months it is never idle or empty. http://www.holkham.co.uk
The Hall is a member of the Treasure Houses group which consists of ten of the most magnificent palaces, houses and castles in England today. Each has it own charm and combine together to give a fascinating insight into live in England through the centuries. Our accommodation was found at the beautifully quaint and hospitable Victoria Inn on the edge of the Holkham Hall estate http://www.holkham.co.uk/victoria/ and provided all the amenities for a quiet, restful break, just what was required after a hectic year. A ten minute walk in one direction is Holkam Beach and Nature Reserve with its four miles of white golden sand. Holkam Beach is one of the most unspoilt and beautiful stretches of sand in the country. Even Gwyneth Paltrow walked the shore line at low tide in the closing scenes of Shakespeare in Love. Running alongside the beach is the wonderful and peaceful pine wood and nature reserve that goes to make up one of the largest National Nature Reserves in the country. From the Victoria Inn and ten minutes in the opposite direction is the stunning grounds of Holkham Hall that are open all year round to allow you to stroll round the deer park and down to the magnificent lake.
Visiting the charming Wells Next The Sea is a must if you are in the area. The equally beautiful beach is breathtaking. The crescent shaped curve of colourful beach huts line the boundary where beach meets pine woods. The golden sands stretching out into the horizon. A short drive is the fashionable Burnham Market dubbed the Chelsea of Norfolk where you are likely to spot a famous face or two. Sheringham, Cromer and Holt are literally on your doorstep.
When you drive around the coastal roads you will notice the traditional brick and flint built houses that are associated with this area. If like me you will be browsing the local estate agents windows staring lovingly at the properties for sale in this most beautiful area of England.

If you are looking for a short break away from it all then Holkham on the North Norfolk coast can offer so much. The area offers a good mix of individual shops, beaches and places to eat. If you enjoy walking there are plenty of places to visit and has something for everyone. I know a return is on the cards at some point in the summer season if only to experience again the delights of the fresh seafood served from O’Reegan’s Seafood Stall at Blakeney Quay.
