Finding your perfect wedding dress

The champagne flowed shortly after they popped the question and what was once a fantasy planning your wedding day is fast becoming a reality. The task of finding your perfect wedding dress will begin in earnest. By the time you are ready to start wedding dress shopping you’ll already have amassed a wish list and ideas of what your dream dress will look like. Consider narrowing down your options and you’ll have a much more pleasurable shopping experience. Learn the basics, define your style and your body type. Above all trust the consultant at the bridal shop and don’t be afraid to think outside your comfort zone if only to eliminate some of the choices in your head. Locally check out Shades of White in St Ives or The Bottom Drawer Bridal in Kings Lynn. Both offer a range of products to fulfil your needs and where customer service comes high on their list of business priorities always putting your needs first. There’ll be lots of reasons why you’ll love shopping with them but don’t just take my word for it.

work out a budget

Its not unreasonable to expect to pay anything between £600 – £1200 for your dress. Of course you will always find cheaper options and some that carry a much heftier price tag. Its a balancing act between your dream dress and the cost as a percentage of your overall wedding budget.

Research

Spend time looking through magazines and online to give you ideas of popular trends and styles on the high street. This will not only give you an idea of what is available but also you’ll soon be able to identify what styles will suit your particular body shape.

The wedding dress professionals

If your wedding is falling in the peak wedding season you’ll be amazed how quickly the bridal shops will get booked up. Its always worth making an appointment with your local bridal shops in advance to avoid turning up and being disappointed or sharing your wedding dress experience with several other brides. Its recommended to start your research early but no later than 8-9 months before the big day. Don’t forget to ask your girlfriends about their experiences and recommendations.

Your own personal fashion advisors

Consider who will go with you when trying on your wedding dress. Two or three people are about right and probably one of those should be your mother! Balance this with someone who will get emotional at the first sight of you in ‘the right’ dress with someone who will give you their honest, balanced opinion. Consider doing your hair and light make-up as its easier to imagine how you’ll look on the day.

Style over substance

Don’t allow this to be the deal breaker but you may want to think about some of the practical elements of your day when considering your dress. If you are having a winter wedding you may want to consider something that is more substantial and a bolero to keep out the winter chills. The opposite can be said when choosing your dress for a summer wedding. Make sure the dress is comfortable to wear for the whole day or at least until after the first dance and that the length of the dress does not make it hard to manoeuvre between tables when tackling the obstacle course en route to the top table.

accessorise

Dress up a simple but elegant dress with elaborate accessories, stunning head pieces, gloves and shoes. Depending on the theme the opportunities are endless. Make sure that the style of your dress and accessories co ordinate to ensure that all elements work together. Above all have fun, Its your big day after all and you’ll want to turn heads as your enter that room. Go for it in style!
